Captain Birnie served with the Flint Police Department for 26 years. Captain Birnie served as the Patrol Bureau Commander, the Bomb Squad Commander, Tactical Team Commander, Lead Firearms Instructor as well as numerous other duties at the department over the course of his long and prestigious career. Before his law enforcement career, Captain Birnie served in the Marines during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
